Recording media is expensive

CF media is one of the most widely available memory formats around the world it also considerably cheaper than the branded competition, P2 cards etc. CF cards are not only more practical and durable than tape but footage can quickly be backed up to a hard drive and they can be reused. At under £100 for an 8GB card higher budget productions may even choose to keep each CF card as a digital master - after all using a new CF card each time is still cheaper than shooting on film.
